   At Recognition Technology Specialists we recognize that developing and running a School Photo ID program is very different from taking school photos of the students and producing various photo packages for the parents. The Photo ID program at each School must be tailored to fit that school's individual needs and budget.

Although many schools and boards of education (BOE) still choose to have a single source supplier for both their student pictures and their photo ID cards, this may not always be the most effective option. Receiving "free" ID Cards from a school photographer where students who miss the shoot cannot get a card and where replacement cards cannot be easily obtained is simply NOT a Photo ID Program. The "free" cards are usually worth what was paid for them. Some photographers are making their "free" IDs on stock that is between 10 and 16 mils thick, a very thin "card" that is easily folded and creased. A folded or creased bar code may have trouble being read by an optical reader rendering the card virtually useless. Our School Photo ID Program uses full 30mil thick cards—the thickness of a credit card—instead of providing something that is little more than a plastic label without adhesive. Our cards can stand up to a full year of abuse because they are true credit card stock. What good is a "free" card that you will have to replace before the school year is out? You will spend more time replacing cards that have bent, and spend more school funds doing so, than you would have spent with us doing the program properly the first time!

Some photographers have taken selling you a plastic card printer so you can replace lost or damaged cards and make new cards for the students who did not have their picture taken. If you have all the following resources available, why would you want to have different thicknesses of cards and different looks of cards on your student population?
  • The staff with available time and a willingness to be trained on a new software package.
  • The space to store the printer and all the supplies it will need.
  • The money to purchase all the production and cleaning supplies that will be needed for the year.
  • An extra computer to host the software and database for your ID production

  • Single source for all your badging needs. Lanyards, badge holders, badge retractors, supplies, new and replacement ID cards.
  • Optional reports produced from the badge information database we maintain for you throughout the year.
  • Optional Icons can be added to your ID cards to signal special situations such as:
    • Internet Access Permission (or lack thereof)
    • Special Education Student
    • Exemption from Physical Education
    • Permission to park on campus
    • And other situations that could benefit from a visible designation
